The Aims of the Watersports Trust

The OWT’s aim is to create a Water Activities Centre available to all.

To benefit the residents Barry and the wider neighbourhood of the Vale of Glamorgan, without distinction of gender, sexual orientation, race or of political, religious or other opinions by associating together the residents and voluntary and other organisations of the locality in a common effort to advance health and education and to provide facilities in the interests of social welfare, health and well-being, for recreation leisure time with the objective of participation of  residents through community access to Water Sports including but not limited to Sailing, Rowing, Canoeing, Power Boating, Sail ability and Adaptive Rowing, Kayaking, Ocean Kayaking, Stand up Paddle Boarding and other complimentary training activities

The Trust was established in 2014. It has undertaken the regeneration of the Mole at No 1 Dock in Barry, transforming part of the derelict Oil Storage facility to a Water Activities Centre for voluntary organisations including the Scouts and Sea Cadets. When permanent facilities are complete, it will provide opportunities for organisations such as Youth Clubs, special needs groups, probationers, Schools and the general public to experience and undertake training in water activities, as well as acting as a community hub.
