LAST Saturday, September 17, saw Barry Scouts host the first of what will become an annual regatta and fun day at the Community Watersports Centre on Barry Docks.
Scouts, Explorers and helpers competed in a series of races around a triangular course for the Barry Docks Trophy.
The winner of the open and under-18 class, beating the adult helpers, was Jake Richardson, from Barry Sea Cadets, sailing a Topper.
Second was Josh Jones of 1st Barry Scout Group, in a Laser. Winner of the under-15 class was Jestyn Wallington and Louis Boull of 1st Barry Scouts, sailing a Pico dinghy.
Those without sufficient sailing experience enjoyed a fun day on the water, which included rides in the centre’s powerboats.
Boat Base manager, Keith McIntire, said:“This was a great event, everyone had a fun day on the water and it was a good introduction to sailboat racing for our more experienced young sailors.
“It was a good start to what will become an annual event and the climax of our boating season.”
